ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE FORCED RELEASE PROCEDURE

id041200523800

Caution
•  The electric parking brake forced release procedure is performed so that the vehicle can be temporarily moved if a malfunction occurred in the electric parking brake system and the electric parking brake cannot be released by operating the electric parking brake switch. After completing the procedure, move the vehicle immediately to a place where it can be repaired and perform the inspection and repairs.
•  When carrying out the procedure, park the vehicle on level ground, verify the surrounding conditions, and pay attention to safety.
Note
•  The clearance between the disc plate and disc pads is expanded after an electric parking brake forced release, therefore operation of the electric parking brake motor gear unit when the electric parking brake switch is initially operated after the servicing may take longer than normal.

1.  Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

2.  Remove the wheel and tire. (See WHEEL AND TIRE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

3.  Disconnect the electric parking brake motor gear unit connector.

7.  Rotate the disc plate and verify that the electric parking brake has been released.

8.  Temporarily assemble the electric parking brake motor gear unit.

9.  Temporarily assemble the bolts.

10.  Protect the electric brake motor gear unit connector by wrapping it with vinyl tape or covering it with a plastic bag while the connector is disconnected.

•  To prevent the electric parking brake from operating unexpectedly, do not connect the electric parking brake motor gear unit connector.
Caution
•  To prevent moisture and foreign matter from penetrating the electric parking brake motor gear unit connector and the connector on the wiring harness side, wrap them with vinyl tape or cover them with a plastic bag.

11.  Secure the electric parking brake motor gear unit connector wiring harness using wire and tape so that it does not interfere with the brake disc and the wheel and tire.

12.  Connect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

13.  Install the wheels and tires. (See WHEEL AND TIRE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

14.  Move the vehicle to a location where it can be repaired.

15.  Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

16.  Connect the electric parking brake motor gear unit connector and perform the electric parking brake inspection. (See ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE CANNOT BE RELEASED [ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE].)

17.  After completing the repair, assemble the electric parking brake motor gear unit using new 0-rings and bolts. (See ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE MOTOR GEAR UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
