ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE FORCED RELEASE PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)
2. Remove the wheel and tire. (See WHEEL AND TIRE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
3. Disconnect the electric parking brake motor gear unit connector.

4. Remove the bolts.

5. Remove the electric parking brake motor gear unit.
6. Rotate the spindle clockwise 1 time.

7. Rotate the disc plate and verify that the electric parking brake has been released.
8. Temporarily assemble the electric parking brake motor gear unit.
9. Temporarily assemble the bolts.
10. Protect the electric brake motor gear unit connector by wrapping it with vinyl tape or covering it with a plastic bag while the connector is disconnected.
11. Secure the electric parking brake motor gear unit connector wiring harness using wire and tape so that it does not interfere with the brake disc and the wheel and tire.
12. Connect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)
13. Install the wheels and tires. (See WHEEL AND TIRE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
14. Move the vehicle to a location where it can be repaired.
15. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)
16. Connect the electric parking brake motor gear unit connector and perform the electric parking brake inspection. (See ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE CANNOT BE RELEASED [ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE].)
17. After completing the repair, assemble the electric parking brake motor gear unit using new 0-rings and bolts. (See ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE MOTOR GEAR UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
