DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE INSTALLATION

Warning
•  Handling the driver-side air bag module improperly can accidentally operate (deploy) the air bag module, which may seriously injure you. Read the air bag system service warnings and cautions before handling the driver-side air bag module. (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS.) (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE CAUTIONS.)

1.  Point the upper side of the driver-side air bag module towards the steering wheel as shown in the figure.

2.  Connect the horn switch connector.

3.  Connect the driver-side air bag module connector and press in the locking device.

4.  Move the driver-side air bag module in the direction of the arrow.

5.  Rotate the driver-side air bag module clockwise 180 degrees.

6.  Lift the driver-side air bag module wiring harness in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure.

7.  Align the driver-side air bag module pins with the steering wheel holes.

8.  Press the driver-side air bag module in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure and attach the pins.

Caution
•  If the driver-side air bag module is installed with the wiring harness contacting the driver-side air bag module pins, the wiring harness may be damaged. Carefully install the driver-side air bag module while verifying that the wiring harness does not contact the pins.

9.  Verify that the driver-side air bag module is securely installed.

10.  Connect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

11.  Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).

12.  Verify that the air bag/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light illuminates for approx. 6 s and turns off.

•  If the air bag/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light does not operate normally, refer to the on-board diagnostic system (air bag system) and perform inspection of the system. (See FLOWCHART [SAS CONTROL MODULE].)
