Stay Damper Disposal (Without Power Liftgate (PLG) System)

1.  Wear protective eye wear.

Warning
•  When cutting the stay damper, wear protective eye wear to prevent the gas or oil from getting into your eyes. Otherwise, the force of the gas and oil spraying out could lead to injury.

2.  Position the stay damper horizontally.

3.  Drain gas and oil by cutting the position indicated in the figure to a 2—3 mm {0.08—0.11 in} depth using a metal saw.

Note
•  The stay damper contains colorless, odorless, nontoxic gas.

4.  Verify that the gas and oil is drained completely by pulling and pushing the piston rod several times with the cut position facing downward.

5.  Cut off the bottom of the stay damper.

6.  Dispose of the stay damper.


Power Liftgate (PLG) Drive Unit Disposal (With Power Liftgate (PLG) System)

Warning
•  Do not disassemble a malfunctioning power liftgate (PLG) drive unit. If a malfunctioning power liftgate (PLG) drive unit is disassembled, the spring pressed into it may fly off and cause injury and damage to the vehicle.

1.  Cut the cylinder case of the power liftgate (PLG) drive unit at the position shown in the figure using a grinder.

2.  Cut the cylinder case of the power liftgate (PLG) drive unit at the position shown in the figure using a grinder and expose the spring and housing.

3.  Secure the spring of the power liftgate (PLG) drive unit in a vise.

4.  Cover the secured power liftgate (PLG) drive unit with a pipe (PVC or equivalent) stuffed with cushioning.

5.  Hit the end of the power liftgate (PLG) drive unit screw with a hammer until the screw and the spring are removed.

6.  Dispose of the power liftgate (PLG) drive unit.
