AUTO CLOSURE DOES NOT OPERATE [POWER LIFTGATE (PLG) SYSTEM]

id0903c9090100

Description
•  The auto closure does not operate with the ignition switched ON (engine off or on).
Possible Causes
•  Dirt or foreign matter on power liftgate (PLG) touch sensor
•  Liftgate latch and lock actuator malfunction
•  Power liftgate (PLG) control module malfunction
•  Open circuit in wiring harness between the following terminals:
?  Power liftgate (PLG) control module terminal 2J and liftgate latch and lock actuator terminal A
?  Power liftgate (PLG) control module terminal 2G and liftgate latch and lock actuator terminal B
•  Short to ground in wiring harness between the following terminals:
?  Power liftgate (PLG) control module terminal 2J and liftgate latch and lock actuator terminal A
?  Power liftgate (PLG) control module terminal 2G and liftgate latch and lock actuator terminal B

Diagnostic Procedure

Step

Inspection

Action

1
POWER LIFTGATE (PLG) TOUCH SENSOR INSPECTION
•  Visually inspect the power liftgate (PLG) touch sensor for the following.
?  Dirt
?  Adhered foreign matter
•  Is there dirt or foreign matter on the power liftgate (PLG) touch sensor?
Yes
Remove dirt or foreign matter, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
2
VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS OPEN CIRCUIT IN WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN POWER LIFTGATE (PLG) CONTROL MODULE AND LIFTGATE LATCH AND LOCK ACTUATOR
•  Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
•  Disconnect the power liftgate (PLG) control module connector.
•  Disconnect the liftgate latch and lock actuator connector.
•  Inspect the wiring harness for continuity between the following terminals (vehicle wiring harness side).
?  Power liftgate (PLG) control module terminal 2J and liftgate latch and lock actuator terminal A
?  Power liftgate (PLG) control module terminal 2G and liftgate latch and lock actuator terminal B
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
•  Repair or replace the wiring harness which has an open circuit.
•  After performing the repair, go to Step 4.
3
VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS SHORT TO GROUND IN WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN POWER LIFTGATE (PLG) CONTROL MODULE AND LIFTGATE LATCH AND LOCK ACTUATOR
•  Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
•  Disconnect the power liftgate (PLG) control module connector.
•  Inspect the wiring harness for continuity between the following terminals (vehicle wiring harness side).
?  Power liftgate (PLG) control module terminal 2J and ground
?  Power liftgate (PLG) control module terminal 2G and ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
•  Repair or replace the wiring harness which is shorted to ground.
•  After performing the repair, go to Step 4.
No
Go to the next step.
4
DETERMINE IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS POWER LIFTGATE (PLG) CONTROL MODULE OR LIFGTAGE LATCH AND LOCK ACTUATOR
•  Inspect the liftgate latch and lock actuator.
•  Is the liftgate latch and lock actuator normal?
Yes
Replace the power liftgate (PLG) control module, then go to the next step.
No
Replace the liftgate latch and lock actuator, then go to the next step.
5
VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS CORRECTED
•  Has the malfunction symptom been eliminated?
Yes
Troubleshooting completed. (Explain the contents of the servicing to the customer.)
No
If the malfunction has not been resolved, repeat the inspection from Step 1.
