Description	Brake light signal malfunction
Detection condition	• The radar unit detects that the brake switch signal and the brake light on/off are incompatible.
Fail-safe	• Inhibits the Mazda radar cruise control (MRCC) system control • Inhibits the smart brake support (SBS) system control • Inhibits the distance recognition support system (DRSS) control (Radar unit type A (VIN serial No. 100001-))
Possible cause	• Brake switch malfunction • DTCs are stored in the rear body control module (RBCM). ? Brake light unit malfunction • DTCs are stored in the instrument cluster. • Radar unit malfunction

Diagnostic Procedure

Step	Inspection		Action
1	INSPECT BRAKE SWITCH • Inspect the brake switch. (See BRAKE SWITCH INSPECTION.) • Is the brake switch normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
1		No	Replace the brake switch, then go to the Step 4. (See BRAKE PEDAL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L.H.D.].) (See BRAKE PEDAL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [R.H.D.].)
2	VERIFY REAR BODY CONTROL MODULE (RBCM) DTCs • Retrieve the rear body control module (RBCM) DTCs using the M-MDS. (See DTC INSPECTION [REAR BODY CONTROL MODULE (RBCM)].) • Are any DTCs displayed?	Yes	Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting. (See DTC TABLE [REAR BODY CONTROL MODULE (RBCM)].)
2		No	Go to the next step.
3	VERIFY INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DTCs • Retrieve the instrument cluster DTCs using the M-MDS. (See DTC INSPECTION [INSTRUMENT CLUSTER].) • Are any DTCs displayed?	Yes	Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting. (See DTC TABLE [INSTRUMENT CLUSTER].)
3		No	Go to the next step.
4	VERIFY THAT REPAIRS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED • Clear the DTC for the radar unit using the M-MDS. (See CLEARING DTC [RADAR UNIT].) • Drive the vehicle at 40 km/h (25 mph) or more for 3 min or more. • Retrieve the radar unit DTCs using the M-MDS. (See DTC INSPECTION [RADAR UNIT].) • Is the same DTC displayed?	Yes	Repeat the inspection from Step 1. • If the malfunction recurs, replace the radar unit. (See RADAR UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.) Go to the next step.
4		No	Go to the next step.
5	VERIFY IF OTHER DTCs DISPLAYED • Are any other DTCs displayed?	Yes	Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting. (See DTC TABLE [RADAR UNIT].)
5		No	DTC troubleshooting completed.
