WHEEL HUB COMPONENT INSPECTION

Caution
•  Performing the following procedures could cause an open circuit in the rear ABS wheel-speed sensor wiring harness if it is pulled by mistake. Before servicing, disconnect the rear ABS wheel-speed sensor and set it aside so that the wiring harness will not be pulled by mistake.

Rear Wheel Bearing Excessive Play Inspection

1.  Remove the wheel and tire. (See WHEEL AND TIRE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

2.  Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

3.  Disconnect the electric parking brake motor gear unit connector. (See ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE MOTOR GEAR UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

4.  Remove the rear brake caliper component installation bolts.

5.  Remove the rear brake caliper component and suspend it out of the way using a cable.

6.  Remove the rear disc plate. (See REAR BRAKE (DISC) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

7.  Install the magnetic base and dial gauge as shown in the figure and measure the wheel bearing axial excessive play.

0.05 mm {0.002 in}
•  If it exceeds the maximum specification, replace the wheel hub component. (See WHEEL HUB COMPONENT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [2WD].) (See WHEEL HUB COMPONENT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [4WD].)
