Description

Rear ultrasonic sensor (LH) characteristic malfunction

Detection condition
•  Parking assist unit detected a rear ultrasonic sensor (LH) characteristic malfunction with the ignition switched ON (engine off or on).

Note
•  If the vehicle is driven under the following situations, the parking assist unit may output a DTC.
?  A place where muddy water is spattered
?  Cold region
•  Malfunction in accessory part installed to vehicle
?  Trailer switch (option) malfunction
•  Rear bumper external appearance damage or incorrect front bumper installation
?  Improper installation caused by rear bumper deformation
•  Rear ultrasonic sensor (LH) malfunction
?  Scratches on sensor surface, deformation, dirt, or freezing
?  Sensor characteristic malfunction
•  Parking assist unit malfunction

VERIFY IF ACCESSORY PART IS INSTALLED
•  Verify if the following accessory part is installed to the vehicle.
?  Trailer switch (option)
•  Is an accessory part installed to the vehicle?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 3.

VERIFY IF MALFUNCTIONING LOCATION IS ACCESSORY PART DEPENDING ON REPEATABILITY
•  Switch the ignition off.
•  Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
•  Disconnect the connector of the following accessory part.
?  Trailer switch (option)
•  Connect the negative battery terminal.
•  Clear the DTC for the parking assist unit using the M-MDS.
•  Retrieve the parking assist unit DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Is the same DTC displayed?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
System is normal. (Explain to the customer that the malfunction occurred due to the accessory part installed to the vehicle.)

VERIFY OTHER PARKING ASSIST UNIT DTCs
•  Clear the DTC for the parking assist unit using the M-MDS.
•  Retrieve the parking assist unit DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Is DTC U3000:49 displayed?
Yes
Replace the parking assist unit, then go to Step 7.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY IF REAR ULTRASONIC SENSOR (LH) CHARACTERISTIC DETERIORATES TEMPORARILY
•  Clear the DTC for the parking assist unit using the M-MDS.
•  Retrieve the parking assist unit DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Is the same DTC displayed?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
System is normal. (Explain to the customer that there is a temporary malfunction due to driving in a place where muddy water was splashed, or driving in a cold region.)

VERIFY REAR BUMPER EXTERNAL APPEARANCE AND INSTALLATION CONDITION
•  Verify that the rear bumper external appearance and installation condition.
•  Are the rear bumper external appearance and installation condition normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the rear bumper, then go to Step 7.

INSPECT REAR ULTRASONIC SENSOR (LH) SURFACE
•  Visually inspect the rear ultrasonic sensor (LH) sensor for the following.
?  Scratches
?  Deformation
?  Dirt
?  Freezing
•  Are there scratches, deformation, dirt or freezing on the rear ultrasonic sensor (LH)?
Yes
If there are scratches or deformation:
•  Replace the rear ultrasonic sensor (LH), then go to the next step.
If there is dirt or freezing:
•  Remove dirt or freezing, then go to the next step.
No
Replace the rear ultrasonic sensor (LH), then go to the next step.

VERIFY THAT REPAIRS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED
•  Clear the DTC for the parking assist unit using the M-MDS.
•  Retrieve the parking assist unit DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Is the same DTC displayed?
Yes
Repeat the inspection from Step 3.
•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the parking assist unit.
Go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY IF OTHER DTCs DISPLAYED
•  Are any other DTCs displayed?
Yes
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
