Note
•  If there is any vehicle malfunction complaint lodged by a customer, perform FOREWORD [PARKING SENSOR SYSTEM] malfunction diagnosis according to the troubleshooting procedure. (See FOREWORD [PARKING SENSOR SYSTEM].)

Item
PARKING SENSOR SYSTEM DOES NOT OPERATE
Description
•  Even if the parking sensor switch is turned on, the parking sensor buzzer is not activated.
Possible Causes
•  Control is inhibited because the trailer switch (option) is installed on the vehicle and the trailer switch (option) is turned on.
•  Short circuit to ground in the circuit between parking assist unit terminal R and the trailer switch (option)
•  Cluster switch connector or terminal malfunction
•  Parking assist unit connector or terminal malfunction
•  Short to ground in wiring harness between the following terminals:
?  Cluster switch terminal B—Parking assist unit terminal V
•  Cluster switch malfunction
?  Parking sensor switch malfunction
•  Parking assist unit malfunction

Diagnostic Procedure

Step

Inspection

Action

1
VERIFY ALL SYSTEM DTCs
•  Switch the ignition off.
•  Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on) and wait for 10 s or more.
•  Perform a CMDTC self-test using the M-MDS.
•  Are any DTCs displayed?
Yes
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
Go to the next step.
2
DETERMINE IF CAUSE OF MALFUNCTION IS TRAILER SWITCH (OPTION) SWITCH RELATED CIRCUIT
•  Display the parking assist unit PID PRHB_TRAIL item using the M-MDS.
•  Is the PID PRHB_TRAIL monitoring value “Yes”?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 5.
3
VERIFY TRAILER SWITCH (OPTION) INSTALLATION CONDITION
•  Ask the customer if the trailer switch (option) is installed.
•  Is the trailer switch (option) installed?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
There is a short circuit to ground in the parking assist unit terminal R-related circuit.
•  Repair or replace the wiring harness which has a short to ground.
4
VERIFY IF TRAILER SWITCH (OPTION) IS TURNED ON
•  Verify the trailer switch (option) on/off condition.
•  Is the trailer switch (option) turned on?
Yes
System is normal. (Explain to the customer that the parking assist system is inhibited because the trailer switch (option) is turned on.)
No
There is a short circuit to ground in the circuit between parking assist unit terminal R and the trailer switch (option).
•  Repair or replace the wiring harness which has a short to ground.
5
VERIFY MALFUNCTION SYMPTOM
•  Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).
•  Shift the selector lever to R position.
•  Does the parking sensor buzzer activated?
Yes
System is normal.
No
Go to the next step.
6
INSPECT CLUSTER SWITCH CONNECTOR CONDITION
•  Switch the ignition off.
•  Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
•  Disconnect the cluster switch connector.
•  Inspect the connector engagement and connection condition and inspect the terminals for damage, deformation, corrosion, or disconnection.
•  Is the connector normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the connector.
7
INSPECT PARKING ASSIST UNIT CONNECTOR CONDITION
•  Disconnect the parking assist unit connector.
•  Inspect the connector engagement and connection condition and inspect the terminals for damage, deformation, corrosion, or disconnection.
•  Is the connector normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the connector.
8
INSPECT PARKING SENSOR SWITCH CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Verify that the cluster switch and parking assist unit connectors are disconnected.
•  Inspect for continuity between the following terminals (wiring harness-side) and body ground:
?  Cluster switch terminal B
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Refer to the wiring diagram and verify whether or not there is a common connector between the following terminals:
•  Cluster switch terminal B—Parking assist unit terminal V
If there is a common connector:
•  Determine the malfunctioning part by inspecting the common connector and the terminal for corrosion, damage, or pin disconnection, and the common wiring harness for a short to ground.
•  Repair or replace the malfunctioning part.
If there is no common connector:
•  Repair or replace the wiring harness which has a short to ground.
No
Go to the next step.
9
INSPECT PARKING SENSOR SWITCH
•  Inspect the parking sensor switch.
•  Is the parking sensor switch normal?
Yes
Replace the parking assist unit.
No
Replace the cluster switch.
