FRONT ULTRASONIC SENSOR INSPECTION

id092200050000

Caution
•  When inspecting the front ultrasonic sensor, always use two or more persons to perform the work and be careful not to damage or scratch the vehicle. Otherwise, the vehicle can be damaged by use of prepared obstructions*1 or noise absorption material*2.

Step

Inspection

Action

1
VERIFY SURROUNDING ENVIRONMENT
•  Visually inspect if there is an obstruction within a 2 m radius around the vehicle.
Caution
•  If there are obstructions within a 2 m radius around the vehicle, the front ultrasonic sensor inspection cannot be performed correctly.
•  Are there obstructions within a 2 m radius around the vehicle?
Yes
Remove any obstruction which is within a 2 m radius around the vehicle, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
2
PERFORM PARKING SENSOR BUZZER OPERATION VERIFICATION
•  Switch the ignition ON (engine off).
•  Turn the parking sensor switch on.
•  Does the parking sensor buzzer activate?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Perform the inspection according to the symptom troubleshooting.
3
VERIFY IF PREPARED OBSTRUCTION*1 REFLECTS ULTRASONIC WAVES
Note
•  Use the prepared obstruction in Step 5.
•  Shift the selector lever to the except R position.
•  Move the prepared obstruction*1 closer to an area 1 m away from the vehicle front.
•  Is the parking sensor buzzer activated at the warning sound interval according to the distance from the obstruction? (Paring Sensor Buzzer Warning Sound Interval (Reference))
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Change the prepared obstruction*1 to a different one, then perform Step 3 again.
•  If the parking sensor buzzer is not activated even though the obstruction has been changed to a different one, go to Step 6.
4
VERIFY IF PREPARED NOISE ABSORPTION MATERIAL*2 ABSORBS ULTRASONIC WAVES
Note
•  Use the prepared noise absorption material in Step 5.
•  Cover the front ultrasonic sensor with the noise absorption material*2. (Using masking tape)
•  Does the parking sensor buzzer remain activated?
Yes
Change the noise absorption material*2 to a different material, then perform Step 4 again.
No
Remove the noise absorption material, then go to the next step.
5
INSPECT FRONT ULTRASONIC SENSOR
•  Cover the front ultrasonic sensors other than the front ultrasonic sensor used for the inspection with the noise absorption material*2 used in Step 4 (using masking tape).
•  Switch the ignition ON (engine off).
•  Shift the selector lever to the except R position.
•  Place the obstruction*1 used in Step 3 in front of the front ultrasonic sensor for the inspection.
•  Is the parking sensor buzzer activated at the warning sound interval according to the distance from the obstruction*1? (Paring Sensor Buzzer Warning Sound Interval (Reference))
Yes
The inspection is completed. (Front ultrasonic sensor is normal)
No
Go to the next step.
6
VERIFY FRONT BUMPER INSTALLATION CONDITION
•  Is the front bumper installation condition normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the front bumper.
7
VERIFY EXTERNAL APPEARANCE OF FRONT ULTRASONIC SENSORS AND INSTALLATION CONDITION
•  Are the external appearance of the front ultrasonic sensors and the installation condition normal?
Yes
Replace the front ultrasonic sensor. (See FRONT ULTRASONIC SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
No
If there is an abnormality in external appearance:
•  Replace the front ultrasonic sensor.
If there is an abnormality in installation condition:
•  Install the front ultrasonic sensor correctly, then repeat the diagnosis from Step 5.
