Engine stalls when shifted to D, M or R position

DESCRIPTION
•  Engine stalls when shifting from N or P position to D, M or R position at idle.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
1.  Not within idle speed specification
2.  TCC piston malfunction (solenoid drive circuit, hydraulic passage blockage, poor operation)
?  Output solenoid valve malfunction (stuck)
•  TCC control solenoid
3.  Torque converter malfunction

INSPECT ENGINE SYSTEM OR AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE OPERATION FOR MALFUNCTION
•  Perform the symptom troubleshooting “NO.5 ENGINE STALLS-AFTER START/AT IDLE” and “NO.10 LOW IDLE/STALLS DURING DECELERATION”.
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace any malfunctioning parts according to the inspection result.
No
Go to the next step.

DETERMINE IF MALFUNCTION IS DUE TO TORQUE CONVERTER OPERATION MALFUNCTION
•  Verify the malfunction symptom.
•  Does the engine stall in the R position?
Yes
Replace the torque converter.
No
Go to the next step.

DETERMINE IF MALFUNCTION IS DUE TO TORQUE CONVERTER OPERATION MALFUNCTION
•  Verify the malfunction symptom.
•  Does the engine stall in the D or M position?
Yes
Replace the control valve body.
No
Replace the automatic transaxle.
