Description

Foot-motion detection sensor circuit malfunction

Detection condition
•  Foot-motion detection unit detected a short circuit to ground in the foot-motion detection sensor circuit
•  Foot-motion detection unit detected an open circuit in the foot-motion detection sensor circuit
Fail-safe
•  Stops the hands-free liftgate operation.
Possible cause
•  Foot-motion detection unit connector or terminal malfunction
•  Foot-motion detection sensor up malfunction
•  Foot-motion detection sensor lwr malfunction
•  Foot-motion detection unit malfunction
•  Power liftgate (PLG) control module malfunction

INSPECT FOOT-MOTION DETECTION UNIT CONNECTOR CONDITION
•  Switch the ignition off.
•  Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
•  Disconnect the foot-motion detection unit connector.
•  Inspect the connector engagement and connection condition and inspect the terminals for damage, deformation, corrosion, or disconnection.
•  Is the connector normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the connector, then go to Step 5.

DETERMINE IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS FOOT-MOTION DETECTION SENSOR UP
•  Always reconnect all disconnected connectors.
•  Connect the negative battery terminal.
•  Clear the DTC for the power liftgate (PLG) control module using the M-MDS.
•  Retrieve the power liftgate (PLG) control module DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Are the same DTCs present?
Yes
Replace the foot-motion detection sensor up, then go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 6.

DETERMINE IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS FOOT-MOTION DETECTION SENSOR LWR
•  Clear the DTC for the power liftgate (PLG) control module using the M-MDS.
•  Retrieve the power liftgate (PLG) control module DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Are the same DTCs present?
Yes
Replace the foot-motion detection sensor lwr, then go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 6.

DETERMINE IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS FOOT-MOTION DETECTION UNIT
•  Clear the DTC for the power liftgate (PLG) control module using the M-MDS.
•  Retrieve the power liftgate (PLG) control module DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Are the same DTCs present?
Yes
Replace the foot-motion detection unit, then go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 6.

VERIFY THAT REPAIRS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED
•  Always reconnect all disconnected connectors.
•  Connect the negative battery terminal.
•  Clear the DTC for the power liftgate (PLG) control module using the M-MDS.
•  Retrieve the power liftgate (PLG) control module DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Are the same DTCs present?
Yes
Repeat the inspection from Step 1.
•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the power liftgate (PLG) control module.
Go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
6
VERIFY IF OTHER DTCs DISPLAYED
•  Are any other DTCs displayed?
Yes
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
