Without Power Liftgate (PLG) System

Description

Liftgate latch switch circuit malfunction

Detection condition
•  Rear body control module (RBCM) detects short to ground in liftgate latch switch circuit with the liftgate closed (liftgate latch switch off).
Fail-safe
Not applicable
Possible cause
•  Liftgate latch and lock actuator connector or terminal malfunction
•  Liftgate latch switch malfunction
•  Rear body control module (RBCM) connector or terminal malfunction
•  Short to ground in wiring harness between rear body control module (RBCM) terminal 4K and liftgate latch switch terminal C
•  Rear body control module (RBCM) malfunction

VERIFY REAR BODY CONTROL MODULE (RBCM) DTCs AGAIN
•  Clear the DTC for the rear body control module (RBCM) using the M-MDS.
•  Retrieve the rear body control module (RBCM) DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Is the same DTC displayed?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 7.

INSPECT LIFTGATE LATCH AND LOCK ACTUATOR CONNECTOR CONDITION
•  Switch the ignition off.
•  Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
•  Disconnect the liftgate latch and lock actuator connector.
•  Inspect the connector engagement and connection condition and inspect the terminals for damage, deformation, corrosion, or disconnection.
•  Is the connector normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the connector, then go to Step 6.

INSPECT LIFTGATE LATCH SWITCH
•  Inspect the liftgate latch switch.
•  Is the liftgate latch switch normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the liftgate latch and lock actuator, then go to Step 6.

INSPECT REAR BODY CONTROL MODULE (RBCM) CONNECTOR CONDITION
•  Disconnect the rear body control module (RBCM) connector.
•  Inspect the connector engagement and connection condition and inspect the terminals for damage, deformation, corrosion, or disconnection.
•  Is the connector normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the connector, then go to Step 6.

INSPECT LIFTGATE LATCH SWITCH CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Verify that the rear body control module (RBCM) and liftgate latch and lock actuator connectors are disconnected.
•  Inspect for continuity between liftgate latch switch terminal C (wiring harness) and body ground.
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Refer to the wiring diagram and verify whether or not there is a common connector between rear body control module (RBCM) terminal 4K and liftgate latch switch terminal C.
If there is a common connector:
•  Determine the malfunctioning part by inspecting the common connector and the terminal for corrosion, damage, or pin disconnection, and the common wiring harness for a short to ground.
•  Repair or replace the malfunctioning part.
If there is no common connector:
•  Repair or replace the wiring harness which has a short to ground.
Go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
6
VERIFY THAT REPAIRS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED
•  Always reconnect all disconnected connectors.
•  Connect the negative battery terminal.
•  Clear the DTC for the rear body control module (RBCM) using the M-MDS.
•  Retrieve the rear body control module (RBCM) DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Is the same DTC displayed?
Yes
Repeat the inspection from Step 1.
•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the rear body control module (RBCM).
Go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
7
VERIFY IF OTHER DTCs DISPLAYED
•  Are any other DTCs displayed?
Yes
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.


With Power Liftgate (PLG) System

Description

Liftgate latch switch circuit malfunction

Detection condition
•  Rear body control module (RBCM) detects short to ground in liftgate latch switch circuit with the liftgate closed (liftgate latch switch off).

•  Liftgate latch switch connector or terminal malfunction
•  Liftgate latch switch malfunction
•  Power liftgate (PLG) rear switch connector or terminal malfunction
•  Power liftgate (PLG) rear switch module malfunction
•  Power liftgate (PLG) control module connector or terminal malfunction
•  Power liftgate (PLG) control module malfunction
•  Rear body control module (RBCM) connector or terminal malfunction
•  Short to ground in wiring harness between the following terminals:
?  Rear body control module (RBCM) terminal 4K and liftgate latch switch terminal A
?  Rear body control module (RBCM) terminal 4K and power liftgate (PLG) rear switch terminal B
?  Rear body control module (RBCM) terminal 4K and power liftgate (PLG) control module terminal 1S
•  Rear body control module (RBCM) malfunction

•  Switch the ignition off.

•  Inspect the connector engagement and connection condition and inspect the terminals for damage, deformation, corrosion, or disconnection.
•  Is the connector normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the connector, then go to Step 10.

INSPECT LIFTGATE LATCH SWITCH
•  Inspect the liftgate latch switch.
•  Is the liftgate latch switch normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the liftgate latch switch, then go to Step 10.

INSPECT POWER LIFTGATE (PLG) REAR SWITCH CONNECTOR CONDITION
•  Disconnect the power liftgate (PLG) rear switch connector.
•  Inspect the connector engagement and connection condition and inspect the terminals for damage, deformation, corrosion, or disconnection.
•  Is the connector normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the connector, then go to Step 10.

INSPECT POWER LIFTGATE (PLG) REAR SWITCH
•  Inspect the power liftgate (PLG) rear switch.
•  Is the power liftgate (PLG) rear switch normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the power liftgate (PLG) rear switch, then go to Step 10.

INSPECT POWER LIFTGATE (PLG) CONTROL MODULE CONNECTOR CONDITION
•  Disconnect the power liftgate (PLG) control module connector.
•  Inspect the connector engagement and connection condition and inspect the terminals for damage, deformation, corrosion, or disconnection.
•  Is the connector normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the connector, then go to Step 10.

INSPECT POWER LIFTGATE (PLG) CONTROL MODULE
•  Inspect the power liftgate (PLG) control module.
•  Is the power liftgate (PLG) control module normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the power liftgate (PLG) control module, then go to Step 10.

INSPECT REAR BODY CONTROL MODULE (RBCM) CONNECTOR CONDITION
•  Disconnect the rear body control module (RBCM) connector.
•  Inspect the connector engagement and connection condition and inspect the terminals for damage, deformation, corrosion, or disconnection.
•  Is the connector normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the connector, then go to Step 10.

INSPECT LIFTGATE LATCH SWITCH CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Verify that the rear body control module (RBCM) and liftgate latch switch, power liftgate (PLG) rear switch and power liftgate (PLG) control module connectors are disconnected.
•  Inspect for continuity between liftgate latch switch terminal A (wiring harness) and body ground.
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Refer to the wiring diagram and verify whether or not there is a common connector between the following terminals.
•  Rear body control module (RBCM) terminal 4K and liftgate latch switch terminal A
•  Rear body control module (RBCM) terminal 4K and power liftgate (PLG) rear switch terminal B
•  Rear body control module (RBCM) terminal 4K and power liftgate (PLG) control module terminal 1S
If there is a common connector:
•  Determine the malfunctioning part by inspecting the common connector and the terminal for corrosion, damage, or pin disconnection, and the common wiring harness for a short to ground.
•  Repair or replace the malfunctioning part.
If there is no common connector:
•  Repair or replace the wiring harness which has a short to ground.
Go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
10
VERIFY THAT REPAIRS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED
•  Always reconnect all disconnected connectors.
•  Connect the negative battery terminal.
•  Clear the DTC for the rear body control module (RBCM) using the M-MDS.
•  Retrieve the rear body control module (RBCM) DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Is the same DTC displayed?
Yes
Repeat the inspection from Step 1.
•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the rear body control module (RBCM).
Go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY IF OTHER DTCs DISPLAYED
•  Are any other DTCs displayed?
Yes
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
