GENERATOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [WITH i-ELOOP (SKYACTIV-G 2.5T)]

Warning
•  Remove and install all parts when the engine is cold, otherwise they can cause severe burns or serious injury.
•  When the battery cables are connected, touching the vehicle body with generator terminal B will generate sparks. This can cause personal injury, fire, and damage to the electrical components. Always disconnect the negative battery terminal before performing the following operation.

Procedure Before i-ELOOP-Related Part Servicing

Warning
•  If the terminal of one of the i-ELOOP-related parts contacts the vehicle body with the service plug of the capacitor connected, it could cause a fire and damage to electrical parts. In addition, if the terminal contacts your body, it could cause electrocution. Disconnect the service plug of the capacitor before disconnecting the i-ELOOP-related part terminal. (See SERVICE PLUG DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [i-ELOOP].)
?  For the i-ELOOP-related part terminals, refer to the “PROCEDURE BEFORE i-ELOOP-RELATED PART SERVICING”. (See PROCEDURE BEFORE i-ELOOP-RELATED PART SERVICING [i-ELOOP].)

Generator Removal/Installation

1.  Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

2.  Disconnect the service plug. (See SERVICE PLUG DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [i-ELOOP].)

3.  Remove the front under cover No.2. (See FRONT UNDER COVER No.2 REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

4.  Remove the front splash shield (RH). (See FRONT SPLASH SHIELD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

5.  Remove the generator drive belt. (See DRIVE BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.5T].)

6.  Remove the drive belt auto tensioner. (See DRIVE BELT AUTO TENSIONER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.5T].)

7.  Remove the plug hole plate. (See PLUG HOLE PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.5T].)

8.  Remove in the order indicated in the table.

9.  Install in the reverse order of removal.

Generator removal note

1.  Remove the wiring harness bracket using the following procedure.

(1)  Remove the bolts shown in the figure.

(2)  Remove the wiring harness clips shown in the figure.

(3)  Remove the wiring harness bracket.

2.  Remove the coolant reserve tank. (See COOLANT RESERVE TANK REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.5T].)

3.  Disconnect the connectors shown in the figure.

4.  Fully loosen the generator lower bolt and pull it outward until it contacts the body frame.

Note
•  The generator can be removed without fully removing the lower bolt from the engine.

5.  Remove the generator upper bolt.

6.  Remove the generator together with the generator lower bolt from the engine.

Note
•  Remove the generator from above the engine compartment.

Generator installation note

1.  To facilitate the installation of the generator to the engine, grasp the spacer in the bolt installation hole using pliers and push it down to the nut side.

2.  Temporarily install the generator to the engine with the generator lower bolt.

3.  Align the generator fixing hole with the engine side hole, then temporarily tighten the generator upper bolt.

4.  Tighten the generator bolts in the order shown in the figure.

Tightening torque
38—52 N·m {3.9—5.3 kgf·m, 29—38 ft·lbf}

5.  Connect the connectors shown in the figure.

6.  Install the coolant reserve tank. (See COOLANT RESERVE TANK REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.5T].)

7.  Install the wiring harness bracket using the following procedure.

(1)  Set the wiring harness bracket to the installation position.
(2)  Install the wiring harness clips shown in the figure.

(3)  Tighten the bolts shown in the figure.
