• There are two types of headliner. Verify the headliner shape before performing the procedures.
Type A
1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)
2. Remove the following parts:
- (1) Sunroof seaming welt (with sunroof system) (See SUNROOF UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

3. Remove the clips A and clips B in the position shown in the figure.

4. Disconnect the connectors.
5. Pull the antenna feeder No.1 out from the A-pillar side.

6. Disconnect rear washer hose C from the joint pipe.
7. Remove the wiring harness clip.
8. Disconnect the connector.
9. Remove the wiring harness clip.
10. Affix protective tape to the position shown in the figure.
11. Fully recline the front seats.
12. Lower the second-row seat back.
13. Temporarily install the seaming welts shown in the figure to the headliner.

Caution
-
• If the fasteners are removed without temporarily installing the seaming welts, the headliner may fall off and the part may be damaged. Before removing the fasteners, temporarily install the seaming welts to prevent the headliner from falling off.
14. Remove the fasteners.
15. Partially peel back the weather strip.
16. Peel back the seaming welts and place the headliner on the seats.
17. Take the headliner out from the opened liftgate.
18. Install in the reverse order of removal.
Type B
Preparation Before Servicing

Caution
-
• The location of the headliner shown in the figure is installed to the roof panel using a clip via the surface fastener. If the surface fastener is peeled off or a clip is removed forcibly when removing the headliner, the headliner will be damaged. Disconnect the surface fastener using a string before removing the headliner.
1. Form the steel wire (approx. ? 2 mm {0.08 in}) into the shape shown in the figure and tie a string (approx. ?3 mm {0.1 in}) to the steel wire end.
2. To prevent the steel wire from getting caught on the headliner, wrap the position shown in the figure with protective tape.
Removal
1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)
2. Mark the position shown in the figure using tape to verify the position of the surface fastener.
3. Remove the following parts:

4. Remove the clips A and clips B in the position shown in the figure.

5. Disconnect the connectors.
6. Pull the roof wiring harness out from the A-pillar side.

7. Disconnect rear washer hose C from the joint pipe.
8. Remove the wiring harness clip.
9. Disconnect the connector.
10. Remove the wiring harness clip.
11. Affix protective tape to the position shown in the figure.
12. Fully recline the front seats.
13. Lower the second-row seat back.
14. Move the headliner in the direction of the arrows shown in the figure and detach the surface fasteners from the sunroof unit. (with sunroof system)
15. Insert a tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver into the position shown in the figure, move it in the direction of the arrow, and detach the clips.
16. Temporarily install the seaming welts shown in the figure to the headliner.

Caution
-
• If the fasteners are removed without temporarily installing the seaming welts, the headliner may fall off and the part may be damaged. Before removing the fasteners, temporarily install the seaming welts to prevent the headliner from falling off.
17. For vehicles without the sunroof system, hook a string with the surface fastener using the following procedure.
- (1) Insert the steel wire processed for the preparation before servicing and a string between the roof panel and the headliner from area A shown in the figure.

- (2) Move the steel wire in the direction of arrow (1) shown in the figure and pull it out of area B shown in the figure.
-
- (3) Insert the steel wire between the roof panel and the headliner from area C shown in the figure.
-
- (4) Move the steel wire in the direction of arrow (2) shown in the figure and pull it out of area D shown in the figure.
-
- (5) Adjust the string position so that the string contacts the surface fastener.
-
18. For vehicles with the sunroof system, hook a string to the surface fastener using the following procedure.
- (1) Insert the steel wire processed for the preparation before servicing and a string between the roof panel and the headliner from area A shown in the figure.
-
- (2) Move the steel wire in the direction of arrow (1) shown in the figure and pull it out of area B shown in the figure.
-
- (3) Insert the steel wire between the roof panel and the headliner from area C shown in the figure.
-
- (4) Move the steel wire in the direction of arrow (2) shown in the figure and pull it out of area D shown in the figure.
-
- (5) Adjust the string position so that the string contacts the surface fastener.
-
19. Pull the string in the direction of the arrow with the string end shown in the figure held and disconnect the surface fastener.
20. Partially peel back the seaming welts and take the headliner out from the opened liftgate.
Installation
1. Pull out area A of the clip for the surface fastener (roof panel side) shown in the figure using a flathead screwdriver.

• To avoid adhering the surface fastener to the headliner before installing the headliner, pull out area A of the clip.
2. Insert the headliner from the liftgate opening.
3. Press the headliner in the direction of the arrows shown in the figure and detach the clips.
4. Press the headliner in the direction of the arrows shown in the figure and detach the surface fasteners. (with sunroof system)
5. Install the seaming welts shown in the figure.
6. Install the wiring harness clips.
7. Connect the connector.
8. Install the wiring harness clip.
9. Connect rear washer hose C with the joint pipe.
10. Insert the antenna feeder No.1 in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure.

14. Press the marked location by hand and press fit the surface fastener.
15. Remove the marking.
16. Move the second-row seat back to their upright positions.
17. Move the front seats to their upright positions.
18. Connect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)
